Over the past year, we have discussed all 12 lunar months and their associated Zodiacs, from the winter solstice and the Rat to the summer solstice and the Horse, and everything in between.

This year, instead of talking about the months again, we will be looking at the 節氣 Jieqi, or “Seasonal Nodes.” These are 2-week periods throughout the year that describe the climate and agricultural activity of that period. The Jieqi are further divided into 5-day periods describing specific activities of animals, plants or weather that are associated with that time.

Alongside the Lunar calendar and the Zodiac animals, this information provides a map to understanding the natural activity of the world around us throughout the year, and can be used to help us attune our individual activities and awareness in resonance with the energy of the season. This is a great way to calm the mind through study and observation of nature, and promote wellness by adjusting our lifestyle and habits in accordance with the seasons on a week-by-week basis.

So join us as we begin to explore the Jieqi, starting with the Spring Equinox!

Below is a map of the Jieqi/Seasonal Nodes, and their associated positions throughout the year, derived from the location of the earth relative to the sun. Dates are approximate and vary year-to-year.
