The New Home of Dragon Rises
We write to you during this strange and unique time to bring you some great news. Drumroll, please….
We’re moving into our new clinic!
Our beautiful new clinic is located at 4852 SW Scholls Ferry Road, near the intersection of Scholls Ferry and Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway. We’re no longer in the greenest building in Portland, but we still think we’ve made a huge upgrade: we’ve designed a gorgeous, chill space, the new Center for Wholeness has ample parking, and we’ll even get to enjoy our courtyard entrance (prettier landscaping tbd).
We can’t wait to begin seeing you here in person! Until then, though, we are still available for remote appointments via phone or video. Click below to schedule with us!
“WHY” DRAGON RISES?
We chose to be called “Dragon Rises Center for Wholeness” for three main reasons: the name honors our Chinese medicine roots, it reminds us how fierce each person’s healing potential truly is, and it keeps us grounded in the belief that every individual--whether in need of a little support or a complete lifestyle overhaul--is inherently whole.
A few years ago we made a pilgrimage to Florida in order to visit our then-94-year-old pulse diagnosis teacher, Leon I. Hammer. Crammed into his little study, sharing life stories, laughing and crying, we all marveled at how incredibly amazing and undeniably human our beloved teacher Leon truly is.
Soon after the trip, we found ourselves rededicated to the dream of “someday...” opening up our own clinic space. “Dragon Rises” is the title of Dr Hammer’s most popular book and the name of the Chinese medicine college that he founded. And we wanted to use it for our future clinic. When Dr Hammer gave us his blessing, we returned with renewed inspiration to the task of transforming our burgeoning clinical practice into the healing and teaching space that we now get to call Dragon Rises Center for Wholeness.
MELINDA AND STEPHEN’S STORY
Because you and I have had the good fortune of working together, one-on-one, on your health and wellness journey, you probably know me just as “Melinda” or “Stephen,” my individual self. Over time, you’ve maybe also heard me refer to “my business partner”--and perhaps you’ve even had the pleasure working with the ‘other half’ of Dragon Rises! Now that we--Melinda and Stephen--are joining forces in an even bigger way, we want to take a moment to share our coming-together story with you.
We first met over a shared passion for Shen-Hammer Pulse Diagnosis. Lo, those many moons ago, Stephen was a shaky, newly-minted Assistant Instructor. Melinda--adorably bright-eyed and pony-tailed--was completely new to pulse diagnosis herself. After that fateful Introductory Seminar she, like Stephen before her, became completely enthralled with the pulse.
Back then, Stephen also taught weekly pulse diagnosis classes, and Melinda faithfully attended each class, quarter after quarter… for three full years in a row! Yes, folks, Melinda has always been this voracious for learning helpful healing modalities.
Melinda continued her training with Stephen as a Student Observer, and it was at that time that our relationship started to blossom into the loving, reliable, collegial friendship that we’ve come to cherish and rely on.
It’s so awesome that we get to work side by side and learn together each day in the clinic. And, now that we’ve created such a solid foundation together, we’ve decided to share the love by bringing a few more amazing practitioners your way!
Stay tuned for the next newsletter installment where we introduce the newest members of the Dragon Rises family!
